Debating on white river hancock permit.
« on: September 19, 2015, 01:50:35 PM »
Have a modern firearm permit for nov.  Was wanting more open land to hunt. Found a lot of elk. Just not sure what to do. Rick

Are you saying you drew a modern white river tag 653? If so, I wouldn't bother with hancock.

Yes scouted the whole area. Good just wasn't sure.  Camped last week at the  Runway Ranger camp area. 73 road I think. Thinking I will deer hunt there so I can Scout more. Rick

Was wanting more open land to hunt.

Unit is thin at higher elevations. Check out Norse Peak area for open country and plenty elk.

If you have a 653 tag. I would consider the hancock kapowsin pass. It let's you access the buckley gate. There is some dandy bulls in there.

Will it get snowed in nov 7th don't know. Was close to norse peak last wee. by the horse camp Government meadows area. Liked over on that side just a lot of target shooting and people. Rick

dont know where you get your info but the rules say the Buckley gate is closed to all access during any bull elk season  :dunno:

You're right. Unless you have a 653 tag.

The Kapowsin winners may hunt on Kapowsin main block only.  No recreation access is allowed on the Buckley block during any bull elk season.

Pretty sure no access means "No Access"

Unless you drew the Hancock lottery pass you can't go through the Hancock gates during elk season. It does not matter what tag you hold if you don't have their permission to be on their property. That's one reason many buy the pass to start with by knowing if they get drawn elk season is going to be thin on other hubters.
